TESTIMONIALS

Steve Murphy

With a career spanning close to fifty (50) years in television, radio and social media, Steve Murphy is among Atlantic Canada’s best known personalities.  He started young, reading and anchoring newscasts on CFBC radio in his hometown of Saint John, NB, at the tender age of 16. Five years later he was hosting the top-rated HOTLINE show on 92/CJCH Halifax, for which he was twice nominated as Canada’s best phone-in broadcaster.  He has won regional and national awards for his commentaries, interviews and newscasts on ATV, later CTV, where he hosted Live at 5 for seven (7) and anchored CTV News at Six for twenty-eight (28) years.

Murphy has interviewed seven (7) Canadian Prime Ministers and more forty (40) provincial premiers, countless federal and provincial ministers, foreign heads of government, royalty, business leaders and show business personalities.  He anchored remote broadcasts from more than sixty (60) locations in Canada, the US and Europe.  He also anchored dozens of election broadcasts and news specials, and was recognized with a national industry award for his coverage of President George W. Bush’s visit to Halifax  in 2004.

Murphy stepped down as chief anchor and Executive Editor at CTV Atlantic in December 2021 but continues to report as the network’s special correspondent, analyst and commentator, with his popular biweekly “MURPHY’s Logic” segment.  His 2023 book of the same name was a Globe and Mail and Toronto Star national bestseller.

Steve Murphy is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Radio-Television Digital News Association and of the Eldred Savoie Award from St. Thomas University and the New Brunswick Legislature Press Gallery.

Working with Christmas Daddies, the IWK Children’s Hospital, United Way, Progress Club, Hospice Saint John and numerous other organizations, Steve Murphy has played a role in raising more than $160 million for charity, for which he was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal and in 2023, as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.

He is the proud father of two adult children, Nora and Brendan, and a grandfather of two.
